Stamped in Time

I've never been a stamp collector, ever, but for whatever reason, in 1995, when these stamps were issued I just had to have them. It's the only sheet of stamps I've ever bought without the intent of using them. Looking at them the other day reminded me why: These classic monsters fill me with peace and contentment. Strange, that something originally intended to shock and horrify is now a source of comfort, but I suppose that's how classic horror is to a lot of people. The level of talent and skill on display and the sheer fun involved can't help but leave you smiling. Horror has grown so much I neither expect nor desire anything like these characters and actors to ever arise again, but it's nice to know we had them and they'll always be there when we need them, isn't it?

Yeah, it's very nice artwork. I can understand the desire some folks have to be stamp collectors, I've just never been one.

Back in ’95, I took a day off and drove down to Beebe Plain, a small town where the border between Quebec and Maine runs down Main Street, and I walked across to the US Post Office there... but they didn’t have the Monster Stamps.

I was somewhat consoled when a friend sent me the Hammer Films stamps from the UK, but I wish I had the Universals.

Pierre, e-mail me your address and I'll mail them to you. I've enjoyed them for 15 years and you of all people deserve to have them, especially after making a special trip to get them. All I did was pop into the post office and buy them, not travel across national borders. Seriously, e-mail me (cinemastyles@gmail.com).

I bought a set of these stamps, too, back in the day and, like Greg, I'm filled with a great sense of happiness from them. So I'd like to extend the same offer to Pierre, who has gone without them for so long. Pierre, please take Greg's stamps.
