Young Frankenstein in Five Minutes

Because I can and I was bored. Seen it a million times? Never seen it? Doesn't matter. Here it is in highly abridged form for your Friday enjoyment.

"The feeling is moochel!"

Man, I love Teri Garr. Not to mention Madeline Kahn. Gotta say, I'm pretty sweet on Gene Wilder too.

And you can never go wrong with a cameo by Gene Hackman.

And Marty Feldman, aka Pat Piper! And Kenneth Mars! And Peter Boyle!

Gene Wilder is the best thing ever.

"Hello, handsome!"

"Jesus Christ get me out of here..."

I had "Hello Handsome" in the first cut of this but it ran almost nine minutes so I ended up cutting it but I love that moment.

love Cloris Leachman's look of "hurt"everytime the horses niegh at FRAU BLUCHER!..Werewolf?..There!..there wolf..How I miss Madeline Kahn..and seeing alot of them guys..and this kind of nonsense..

Where wolf? There wolf.

That's another one I had to edit to get it down to 5 minutes. Another one I was sore to lose was the brandy, warm milk, Ovaltine triad of suggestions that leads to "Nothing! Thank you."

I had the soundtrack on 8-track.

"Why, the worm, sir."

By the way, I could go for a big bowl of vermicelli right about now.

Did anyone else read the novelization? I sometimes throw out a line from that and confuse people who only saw the movie.

At the monster's unveiling in the novelization, Igor comes out on stage in a cutaway coat minus his hump, which baffles Dr. F.

"Igor, where's your hump?"
"Never with tails."

Classic.

Hold on, what? There was novelization of Young Frankenstein?

..this is great...just had another looksie and laughing myself silly.I thought I'd exausted myself over this a long time ago..
"We'd better make DAMNSURE!"..
Kenneth Strickfadden's original monster maker equipment was dragged out for this, and as far as I know,is still on display here in Dallas at Las Colinas Studios..

Thanks Christopher. When you've seen it a hundred times it does play itself out (or so you'd think) but I can still find myself laughing at its great, great jokes.

It may very well be possible that this is the best comedy of all time.

Am I alone in this feeling?

Greg said...

The top of the DVD says "The Greatest Comedy of All Time" but doesn't cite anyone. No critic, no magazine or paper, nothing. The distribution company itself is touting that and you know, I don't think many people would object.

certainly the best horror comedy of all time..a few notches funnier than Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein..who rarely make me laugh...

One of my faves - and certainly among the top three or five most quotable movies of all time (as other comments have already proved!). Cutting that down to five minutes must've been so hard. But it gave me joy, so thanks. :)

Thanks Jandy. It was very difficult to cut jokes out that I loved so much. The movie has a good to great joke at the rate of about one every minute.
