That's No Meter-Maid!

From the archives, a couple of candid shots of Rita Hayworth in July of 1951. I'm still waiting for Dante's Inferno (1935) to be released on DVD. I saw it years ago on AMC, back before they degenerated into a poor man's USA network (if it's even possible for the USA network to have a poor man's version). I recall liking it and have wanted to see it again for years. Rita has a small dancing part in it, billed as "Rita Cansino."

Oh, those are wonderful photos. I just love Rita Hayworth. She's so beautiful and talented, but she seems so approachable.

And be careful about knocking USA. Monk airs on USA, and I won't have anyone dissing him.

I feel the same way about Rita. Some of her lines about Orson, Aly, or herself were so wonderfully self-deprecating you knew they couldn't be coming from anyone with a larger than life ego.

And Monk notwithstanding, the USA network isn't often equated with high-quality programming but I shan't diss it again. But AMC I will. 'Cause they suck.

Agreed. AMC has gone over to the dark side.

Jonathan Lapper:I just as curious as to why the design of your Cinema Styles website has been changing?(because the last time I visited the site it had a black background)or is it suppose to change from time to time?

Marilyn, do you remember who used to host AMC in the eighties? Before Clooney hosted in the early nineties. I really liked him a lot but now I can't remember who it was.

Sam, I change the design here about every three to four months. It has had seven different looks in the last 21 months, an average of once every three months. I just do it because I like to freshen up the look every now and then. The last design was brown on black. It went from Mid-November to late February.

I agree that AMC ain't what it used to be.

But, c'mon - no love for "Mad Men"?

Jonathan Lapper said...

Pat, I don't know Mad Men. I don't follow tv shows except later on DVD so I'm unfamiliar with a lot of the current stuff on. Do you remeber who the first host was by the way?

Was it Bob Dorian? I don't actually know, but an internet search turned him up as possibly being who you're thinking of.

Bill, that's him! I shouldn't have been so lazy. I did a quick search, saw Clooney's name and gave up. When AMC first started he would introduce the movies just like Robert Osborne now does on TCM. In fact, when TCM first started they were like a carbon-copy of AMC. Dorian even had a living room set like they now have on TCM. And then everything turned to a huge steaming pile of human waste. R.I.P old school AMC.

I don't know - AMC now has that "New Classics" series, which features the likes of Predator and probably also Toys. So don't be too hard on them.

AMC does indeed suck. But those are wonderful pictures of Hayworth. She was lovely.

And Sam: Jonathan changes the look to his blog everytime I do. I don't know what to make of that ...

Jonathan Lapper said...

Predator and Toys?! I take it all back!

Jonathan Lapper said...

Rick, I just humbly follow your lead. Except on the Wordpress thing. But everywhere else, you're my role model.

I often affect people that way. Either that, or I make them ill. There seems to be no middle ground.

When I saw that Rick had just posted, I threw up all over my desk.

See what I mean?

Maybe someone could come up with an Anti-Nausea-Rick medicine. I mean I don't need it obviously, since I'm such a follower but it would probably be welcome for people like Bill.

We could make a fortune. I've, ah, touched a lot of lives.

Have you seen the guy who's the Robert Osborne of the FOX channel. What a loser! What a shill!

Rick Olson said...

Does that assume that Robert Osborne isn't a loser and a shill?

Marilyn said...

Indeed, Rick. Welcome back from the land of, well, exactly what is St. Louis the land of?
