[making choking and gasping sounds] Fox, you don't that movie?!?!? I'm sure now you do because you can just look up the character name but... You need to watch a lot more sci-fi B-movies! You're missing out. And to add to the coolness, Neville is listening to an 8-track of the theme from "A Summer Place" while he's doing that. Then he goes and takes in some Woodstock at the local theatre. What can I say, he's a man of many dimensions, from the Alpha to the Omega.
You know some people delete spam but not me; it's too entertaining. Remember the guy who solved, uh... everything in the world and left that 73 paragraph comment linking to his 43 blogs. Now that guy had it going on.
Bill, one day we will all put an end to comparing and contending. That is my contention and I have many comparisons throughout history to bolster that contention.
Brother Adam, watch out for catapults. I resolve to not let catapulted fireballs bother me.
Speaking of coolness, when a catapulted fireball comes through the window Neville just glances at the Caesar bust he's talking to and says, "Excuse me a minute." I would have been all like, "HOLY SHIT! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON???" See, that's why my resolution will ultimately fail.
I knew where those screengrabs were from, and I never even saw the whole film. What is the price that is put on film scholarship? I say where there's a will, there's a way.
Bill, one day we will all put an end to comparing and contending. That is my contention and I have many comparisons throughout history to bolster that contention.

All negative, I presume? All just about 3 weeks before the fall of their respective civilization.
Rick, there is scant evidence to support the claim that, for instance, the Mayans fell because they put an end to contending and comparing. And you know it!
Comparing Peter, Rick and Bill's comments I contend that you are all wrong. That remains my contention. The Mayans fell because they were not cool under pressure like Robert Neville. Neville did not compare the Family to himself. He contended that the Family was full of losers, and his contention was right!
I'm nervous to be honest about this b/c I like my American citizenship, but even after I IMDb'd that, it took me a bit... I had trouble getting from The Last Man on Earth to The Omega Man.
I haven't seen it [holding up garbage can lid to protect self from flying vegetables], YET, and it's probably b/c I've never been a sci-fi guy. [now hiding behind a full on wooden barrier]
HOWEVER, y'alls enthuasiasm and Lapper's stills have made me want to go out and rent it... which I just might do tonight!!!
Fox, you can watch it for free on Netflix instant viewing if you like. It's pure entertainment. Heston even gets referred to as a "Honky" and told his name is "Mud." You just can't beat that.
Yes... thanks Bill. I was trying to make a reference to the The Four Seasons pop band.
I may be out-of-it when it comes to stoner-space rock, but I DO know who Pink Floyd is. In fact, I think he's a pretty good guitar player if I do say so myself.
And, Lapper, we disagree. The 19th Ammendment SUCKS! My life is dedicated to repealing that one (or whatever it is you need to do to make an ammendment disappear). It ruined everything.*
The band, The Four Seasons, was a Sixties band. Considering we're conversing online, you'd think someone would look up information as simple as this on Google.
Fox--I feel for you. J.L, Bill, Rick--you're banter made me laugh, and now I am glad I got out of bed. I only saw Omega Man about 3 years ago, and since then, I'm glad my birth was delayed, and I can look forward to a future of pulling from the past. Incidentally, Jonathan, thank you for adding a link to my humble blog... flattering and unexpected. Neville is a wise cool to aspire to. I have the soundtrack to play on days like Christmas to drive around a deserted L.A. One last thing, I can't resist pointing out, that the name of my URL is no coincidence. I have faith you'll connect the relevant quote...
Lindsay, since that line has probably been used a few times I don't know if I'm thinking of the same one but if I am it's pretty incredible because just this week, for the first time in years, I pulled out my Trainspotting soundtrack CD and have been listening to it in the car. To quote one of the songs on the CD, "Oh, isn't it wild."
Jonathan, excuse my ambiguity... when Neviile is pressed about staying "cooped up in that pill-box," his reply is, (cooly), "...Because it's my home, it's where I live, It's where I'm gonna live, and not Methias, or the Family, or any other son-of-a-bitch is gonna make me leave!" You have me intrigued about the Trainspotting soundtrack, I don't have that one.
Lindsay, the line I was thinking of is one of the more famous ones from Trainspotting when Rent asks the girl what she's doing and she says, "I'm going home."
"Where's that," he asks.
"It's where I live." she says.
It was in my head because of the soundtrack and the fact that I did this post and watched Omega Man just last week for the sixth or seventh time and still connected the line to Trainspotting and not Omega Man probably says something about my addled brain I don't want to know.

Since I don't know what movie that's from, I'm having a good time fantasizing about what he's having target practice at.

Fox -- how can you not know what movie that's from??? Are you even an American!?
Avagdro - I wish to stop comparing and contending, too. Together, we can put an end to both!

I'll go ahead and resolve just to drive like Neville -- like there's no one else on the road, and I have to be home by nightfall at all costs.

BTW Lapper... we were in the middle of having fun on here that I forgot to mention how much I like the banner today!
Whatever, Fox. It's too little too late, as far as I'm concerned.
I can't even look at you anymore...

Even if I woke up this morning looking like Jennifer Tilly and Kate Beckinsale in a bubble bath together??? (sorry Marilyn)
If you woke up looking like that? Um, yes, even then.

Bill, I admire your resolve.
Especially if you woke up looking like that ... there's only so much creepiness I can handle.
And who ever started talking about Mayans? And isn't there more than one way to kill a civilization? I hope there is, anyway ...
Robert Neville is a tool.
Robert Neville is a tool.
Rick, that's a hell of a typo. Of course you meant to write, "Robert Neville is so cool." Don't type so fast okay?
Robert Neville is a tool.
Rick... thanks for taking the heat off me for awhile. You're a real pal, buddy!
But Fox, it was just a typo. Neville is cool. A cool-ass Honky!
And his name is Mud.
Even if I woke up this morning looking like Jennifer Tilly and Kate Beckinsale in a bubble bath together???
Honestly, I picture that as looking like something out of The Thing*, like that guy on the table with the teeth in his chest and the spider head.
*Which I'm sure Fox also hasn't seen.
Movies mentioned on or shown in clips on Cinema Styles that Fox was completely unaware of:
The Dead Zone
The Four Seasons
The Omega Man
Pink Floyd's The Wall
Number of those films that are obscure: 0.
What's a "pink floyd"?
It's the name of a hockey team that drowns when it falls through the ice due to a change in one of the four seasons of the year.
Oh, right. I knew about them. They had a rough season.
Their coach was warned about the ice but ignored it. Probably why he ended up running the Family in The Omega Man.
Of course it was a typo. What I meant to say was Robert Neville is a fool.
And the reason he ended up running the Family (isn't that code for the NRA?) wouldn't be because of that big phallic symbol in his hand, would it?
Talk about a tool ...
Hey, why are we knocking Charlton Heston all of a sudden?
"We?" You mean "Rick" aka, Mr. Troublemaker.
When's the last time your blood saved the future Rick? Yeah, that's what I thought.

This is true. I cannot refute that. But why did you mix in a 50's pop band in there with the three other movies???
The second ammendment rules!
I was referring to the movie Pink Floyd's The Wall which I used once in a banner and you asked what the movie was.
The 21st amendment rules!
I think Fox is talking about The Four Seasons.
I just assumed Fox didn't know that Pink Floyd was a sixties/seventies/eighties group. You can't blame me for that assumption.
And Bill, you didn't show your support for a favorite amendment at the end of your comment. I'm surprised. Find a complete list here.
The 16th Amendment sucks! Really sucks!
The 19th Amendment rules!
What? Knocking Charlton Heston? I was talking about Robert Neville ... you mean that's Heston???
And as for being a troublemaker, it is my lot in life to flit between the blogs, doing good, setting things aright.
Alas, I wish it weren't so ... I so want to be loved ...
And so you are loved Rick, loved by all... except Bill. He hates you.
The 27th Amendment is unenforced! Foul! I cry foul!
Yes... thanks Bill. I was trying to make a reference to the The Four Seasons pop band.
I may be out-of-it when it comes to stoner-space rock, but I DO know who Pink Floyd is. In fact, I think he's a pretty good guitar player if I do say so myself.

* Just kidding, Marilyn. I love you.
You know what should happen. Pink should marry someone whose last name is Floyd. And take his last name. That's what should happen.
Well, there is Cliff Floyd, outfielder for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays!
We should set them up.
I'll invite Cliff to Marilyn's January 12th Film Club party and you see if you can pull the same strings with Pink. You never know...
The band, The Four Seasons, was a Sixties band. Considering we're conversing online, you'd think someone would look up information as simple as this on Google.
Fox, you just got burned!
Geez, Peter... rub some more sand into my eyes why don't ya???
BTW... what's Google?
Lapper,
It's always good to follow these threads and watch Fox take his lumps.
That scene is an interesting one. They sped up the film when Heston leaps up from his seat to shoot. That adds to the cool.
But damn, he needs a few more hairs on his head to be really cool.
Piper, I love that "speed up" that comes out of nowhere. And the eight track of "A Summer Place."
A few thinning hairs, ah, it's okay. He's still the coolest in this movie.
Fox--I feel for you.
